Spy Among Spies: Operation Teardrop Page 3 of Chapter 1

had just ascended. Within seconds, everyone called in and reported they were in position.

     The surveillance van reported, “This is One. From here on out, radio silence. Only talk in extreme emergencies. Extraction will be through exit one. Exit two is the alternate. Jamming all emergency band radio frequencies at this time.”

     Jim had never worked with a full extraction team before. He always worked alone; however, the information he was attempting to extract was very sensitive involving strategic military operations the Russian Premier had in his office upstairs. Jim casually walked up the stairs and down the empty hallway, reaching the third door on the right within a few seconds. He pulled what looked like a sewing kit out of his trouser pocket, pulled two strangely curved pins out of the bag, and immediately began picking the lock on the solid oak door. The preselected room at the end of a long hallway was chosen because of information they received from one of the maids, an inside informant who worked strictly for U.S. currency. Jim heard a click, turned the brass doorknob, and slipped inside the dark room without being seen. He quietly shut the door behind him.

     The only sound in the office was the soft whine of a desktop computer sitting across the room on a shiny solid cherry desk. Jim knew exactly where to go in the dark room so he needed no light. He removed a small plastic penlight with special batteries from his trouser pocket and scanned the top of the huge desk. A black briefcase was the only object on the desk sitting beside the buzzing computer monitor. Jim removed a special electronic lock-picking device mounted on the side of his watch and placed it over the thumb wheel combination lock in the center of the briefcase. He pushed a button on the top of the device and it magnetically lined up all of the wheels in the lock within seconds. He released the briefcase latches and the case opened with a slight squeak. Agent Stroker briefly scanned the room then looked back at the open case. He opened the case and took a mental picture of its contents before removing any documents.

     Agent Coal looked up the stairs as she sipped on her margarita. Periodically she scanned the ballroom making sure no one approached...
