If You Need an ISBN Number, Here's Some Helpful Information You Need to Know First!

Do you need an ISBN number? It all depends on how you plan on publishing your book. I have compiled the information to obtain one in as fast as ten days, if you need one at all.

Of course, now you're asking, "What is an ISBN?"

I: International
S: Standard
B: Book
N: Number

This number is used by booksellers, libraries, universities, wholesalers, and distributors to provide more effective marketing and location of your book once it is published and on the market. It helps identify your book or edition of your book, how much it costs, and from what specific publisher it is available through. This is a unique number and is used to identify your unique book.

The simple serial number looks like this:

978-1-4116-6153-0

This new 13 digit number is now required (it used to be 10 digits) for hard copy published books and makes searches for your book easier. It can also give your self-published book a more professional look and feel, not to mention increase your sales.

There are a couple ways to obtain an ISBN:

1. You can either get one through a publisher that publishes your book, or

2. If you need an ISBN number for yourself, you can purchase your own ISBNs.
