Fiction writer software is the only way to go whether you are planning on self-publishing your fiction novels or have them professionally edited and published. Either way you go about doing it, the various software applications available to you will help produce an overall higher quality story than by just using basic tools within your ordinary word processor for your writing.

Normal word processing programs do have grammar and spelling tools to help point out basic errors; however, these programs are geared more toward writing letters and essays not fiction novels. The standard word processor points out most errors accurately, but I've found that they don't work well with slang and different speech within the content of your story.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about:

"Do you have a pen on you?" Gary asked.<br>
"Yeah, in my purse," Susan replied.

Your word processor grammar checker will jump all over the answer to the previous question because it considers it a "sentence fragment". By the rules your normal word processor grammar checker follows, it is looking for the sentence to be as follows:

"Yes, the pen is in my purse."

As you can see, "the pen is" is assumed when she responds to the question, perfectly acceptable in modern language, but a big no no with formal writing.

One problem! You aren't writing a formal letter or formal essay! You are telling a story. There is a Huge Difference! (My word processor is picking on me here while I write this page. Lots of fragments! Oh well!
