Book Publishers
Available to Fiction writers!
Finding book
publishers willing to publish your work of fiction can be a tiresome
task for any writer. There's a lot involved with trying to get your
book published. Keep the faith and keep plugging because success
only comes to those that keep trying!
There is a lot of frustration encountered and hopefully you will
become accustomed to when dealing with fiction publishers. Rejection
letters are the biggest pain in the world for a writer. Don't stop
submitting your query letters or manuscripts! The more fiction book
publishers you send your query letters to, the more chances you will
have at finding the right publisher for you.
First, I'd like to tell you a few things you should look for in
fiction publishers before choosing which one you want to publish
your book.
1. Attempt to contact a desired publisher via their contact
information. If they have email, send then a question or two about
the services they provide. If they have a phone number, call them.
Make sure they are a legitimate company before doing business with
them. If you've heard of the company, they are most likely
legitimate.
2. Look at some of the other books the publishers have
published in the past. Search for some of the books via other
methods as well such as major search engines and see where they are
selling them, their average price, and if available, how many of
each book has sold.
3. Check to see if the book publishers use print on demand or
if they provide the printing services in house. In-house print on
demand is okay, but if you have to buy a bulk amount of books when
you first agree to a printing, you will incur several thousands of
dollars in initial costs that you probably don't have and you will
have to find a place to store all of the books in the meantime
before you actually get them in stores or sell them outright.
4. Check with the publishers on how much they charge for
their services. Publishing is a very inexpensive service and
shouldn't cost you more than a thousand dollars (and this is on the
high end). There are companies out there that don't charge that much
and still provide the highest quality for your fiction books.
There are also book publishers that give you an advance on your
book. An advance is just a temporary loan that is paid back with
each purchase of your book. You will not see any earnings from your
book until after the advance is paid in full. A publisher most
likely won't give you an advance unless they are sure your book is
going to exceed the expectations of the advance they give you.
5. Check with the
Better Business
Bureau for the publishers that you are interested in and see if
they are listed and in good standing. If there are any major
problems with that company, it will definitely show up.
With that out of the way, you are now ready to find fiction
publishers to publish your book.
Below is a list of good publishers that I have researched to ensure
they are legitimate and worth doing business with. I want you to
find the best publisher for your needs as a writer.
Trafford
Publishing is a very respected book publisher that deals with a
lot of new authors. Trafford uses print on demand to publish your
book, you keep 100 percent of your copyright, and Trafford
efficiently informs booksellers, librarians and wholesalers, around
the globe, about the availability of your books. This is a great
publisher if you have some money.
Author House is
another great publisher that is very reasonably priced. They
produce high quality work and ensure you book is listed in all of
the major online book outlets. The have been around since 1997 and
are leading the world in helping authors publish their own books.
Publish
America is a respected publisher who has produced some great
works including one from Elizabeth Moult, Author of 'Doves and
Angels'. Make sure if you go through Publish America, you have a
good editor go through your book prior to submission, but other than
that, they produce some fine work and offer great services on their
website.
These fiction book publishers are actually more self-publishing
portholes, but they do more of the work than if you self-publish it
yourself.
If you prefer to
use a traditional publisher, find publishers at
Publishing
Industry.net. This is a solid resource for publishers and has a
great business directory built into their website. Just watch out
for the publisher's fees and ensure you make sure they are
legitimate businesses prior to submitting and paying for their
service.
If you find that you don't want to pay for the cost of publishing
your book and would like to take a self publishing route,
check out how to avoid book
publishers and self publish you fiction for pure profit.
